Spinzilla is coming

spinzillaTNNA’s Spinzilla event is coming. What’s Spinzilla? It’s not a giant spinning lizard. No, instead Spinzilla is a global event where teams and individuals compete in a friendly challenge to see who can spin the most yarn in a week!

Spinners can sign up for a team based on proximity to a store or an affinity with a certain brand or go it alone and spin Rogue. Team Spinner registration is open August through September 22. Rogue spinners have until October 3rd to sign up.

Sign up for Spinzilla here if you want to join a team, or here if you want to spin as a Rogue spinner.

Your $10 registration fee is used to provide CD spindle packs, educational materials, and outreach about the Handspinning program. In 2014, registration fees will once again so to support TNNA’s Needle Arts Mentoring Program (NAMP).

I’ve joined Team Storey, which is also Team Spinning Loft. Alison at The Loft has announced that there will be a prize for the spinner on the team that spins the most breeds of wool during the event.

While I had thought that I’d save my spinning of the Rambouillet wool until Spinzilla, I couldn’t wait. I’m actually glad I didn’t, because I’m seeing that there are a lot of broken off tips and other junk in the rolags that I made. I’m going to wash up about 1lb of the body wool for Spinzilla, and see if I have the same problem. If I do, then I’ll cut off the tips before I card or comb them.
